Introducing Penny: an AI parenting admin assistant on WhatsApp

1. The problem Penny solves

Family admin doesn't arrive in one place. It comes as a school newsletter, a class WhatsApp group, a paper letter in a book bag, and an email, often for the same event, and usually landing on whichever parent happens to open it first. Reminders, deadlines, and PE kit slip through not because parents aren't organised, but because the information never had a single home to live in. We've written before about why the reminders slip through and why sharing a calendar alone doesn't fix the mental load. Penny is the tool built to close both gaps at once.

2. What Penny does

• Daily briefing: a clear plan sent each morning covering what's on, what's due, and what to pack.
• Reads forwarded school email: newsletters, PDFs, and letters are read in full, with the dates and deadlines pulled out.
• Voice notes: a quick voice message about anything coming up is transcribed and added straight to the plan.
• Kit and deadline reminders: PE kit, swimming, instrument day, and permission slips, remembered as a pattern rather than a one-off.
• Lunch menu: pulled from the school's PDF so it doesn't need reading separately.
• Shared family to-do list: one list both parents can add to and see, rather than two separate memories.

3. How it works

Penny works like messaging any other contact in WhatsApp.

Step 1: Forward it to Penny

Forward the school email, newsletter, or a voice note about anything coming up.

Step 2: Penny reads and extracts it

She pulls out the dates, deadlines, kit lists, and lunch menu that apply to your family, and leaves the rest.

Step 3: You get one daily plan

Each morning, a single clear briefing arrives with everything that matters for the day, plus a nudge the evening before for anything that needs preparing in advance.

4. Built for both parents

Penny links to both parents in a household, so there's one shared to-do list rather than two separate mental tallies. Either parent can forward something the moment they hear about it, and when one of you ticks something off, the other sees who did it. The aim isn't just splitting tasks more evenly, it's making sure neither parent is the single point where family admin has to pass through.

5. Pricing and availability

Penny is free for the first 30 days. After that, it costs £4.99 per family per month, with both parents included in that price. There's no separate app to download, no account to set up, and no integration needed with your school. You simply forward what your school already sends you.

6. Why we built it

Family admin has quietly grown into a second, unpaid job that mostly runs on memory, notifications, and one parent holding the whole picture in their head. The tools built to help, shared calendars, to-do apps, school portals, all still require someone to do the reading, the noticing, and the typing. Penny is built to take that layer of work off entirely: forward the mess, get back the plan. It's a small idea, applied consistently, every single day of the school term.
