Can you just send Penny a voice note instead of typing it all out?
Short answer: yes. Here's what actually happens to it, and when typing or forwarding is still the better call.
Send Penny a voice note the same way you would to any WhatsApp contact. She transcribes it and works from the text exactly as if you'd typed it, pulling out dates, tasks, and reminders. It works well for a quick thought on the move, dentist Thursday, remember the cake sale money. It's not a substitute for forwarding the actual document when there is one, a form, a PDF, or a newsletter still needs to be forwarded so Penny can read the source itself.
1. Short answer: yes
Voice notes work with Penny the same way they work with any other WhatsApp contact: hold to record, send, done. There's no separate setting to turn on and no different number to message. It's often the fastest way to get something to Penny when you're driving, at pickup, or otherwise not somewhere you can type comfortably.
2. What happens when you send a voice note
| Good for a voice note | Quick reminders, appointments, one-off tasks you'd otherwise forget before you can type them |
|---|---|
| Better as a forward | School newsletters, PDFs, forms, anything with a specific date or number Penny should read exactly, not paraphrase |
Penny transcribes the voice note and then processes the text exactly as she would a typed message. There's no separate "voice mode", the transcription is the input, and everything downstream, working out whether it's a task, a date, or a correction, works the same way it does for text.
3. What works well as a voice note
Anything you'd otherwise type out from memory works well spoken: "Mia's got a dentist appointment Thursday at 4:45", "remind me about the cake sale money on Friday", "the school trip got moved to next Tuesday". These are the kind of quick, self-contained thoughts that are genuinely faster to say than to type, especially with your hands full or on the move.
4. When forwarding or typing is better
If there's a source document, a newsletter, a PDF, a form, forward it instead of describing it from memory. Penny reads the source directly and extracts exact dates and details, which is more reliable than a voice note summarising something you skimmed. Voice notes are for capturing a thought, not for transcribing a document you're holding in your other hand.
5. If the transcription gets something wrong
Background noise, mumbled names, or an unusual word can occasionally trip up the transcription. When Penny genuinely can't work out what was meant, she'll ask a short follow-up rather than log a guess. If something does get logged wrong, correcting it is as simple as telling her, the same as fixing a typo in a text message. See introducing Penny for more on how corrections work day to day.
